I have never actually played the first game, but from what I understand that is not a big deal as this game does not follow on from that in terms of its story. The main character of the game is called Haruki Kitahara and I found him to be a very compelling kind of character.
He is a typical high school student; he is a pretty happy dude and he loves music.
